Greetland Goldstars 9's vs Aberdeen AcademySunday 12th April 2009
Greetland Goldstars Under 9's and Aberdeen Academy with referee for the day Andy Nicholson
Goldstars U9s hosted a prestigious visit from Aberdeen's touring Academy side on Sunday 12 April. The sun shone at Goldfields as the Scottish Premier League guests took on the Gold & Stars teams in four friendly matches. Aberdeen clearly had a talented and well organised squad but both Greetland sides made a good account of themselves and were unlucky not to have a win to show for their efforts. In the end Aberdeen ran out winners of all games, 5-0 & 2-0 against Gold, and 2-0 & 1-0 against Stars. The football was followed by hot dogs at the Community Centre & the day was a great success. Aberdeen's Youth Academy coach Bobby McDonald has since emailed to say "Can I just take this opportunity of thanking everyone who contributed in making the Aberdeen FC Academy kids have such a fabulous, wonderful weekend in Manchester and West Yorkshire. The kids had a wonderful experience, fourteen tremendous games of football, and saw two football matches in what was a spectacular event for them. Your welcoming and hospitality was second to none." Special thanks to Andy Nicholson who kindly refereed the matches and Oliver Bagley & Benjamin Whitehead from u10s who helped bolster our squads. Thanks also to Nick Walker for making us aware of the opportunity.
