With the entertainment at a premium, it would have been easy to forget amongst other things that the event was to raise funds for the Stars with a raffle adding further to the funds. The biggest moneymaker however was the auction. A six-pack of wine, donated by Balmoral Garage, drew £13, similarly did a four pack of quality wines. A nine-pack of fine wines, donated by Ultra Fabrications generated £25, a whisky decanter and knife set, donated by guests Keith and Diane Butters each made £10 whilst a bottle of champagne from Berties of Elland went for £9, a Rose and Crown meal voucher brought in £25 whilst a Huddersfield Town family voucher sold at £20. The Stars also have a signed Burnley shirt courtesy of Clarets defender Clarke Carlisle, which was not auctioned on the night but will be in the not so distant future.
With the night drawing to a close, a bucket collection and food sales added a further £100 to the kitty, leaving the overall total standing at an incredible £365. The Stars intend to use the funds to purchase thermal wear for all the players for the winter months and also for team building events.
Manager Andy Heaton was happy with the results of the night, “We’re fortunate to have good partnerships with all our sponsors and The Rose are no exception, from the off they’ve got a band together, practiced, made donations for our cause and gathered prizes to make sure we got the best out of the night. I’m sure I speak for everyone connected with the team when I say a big thanks to Andy and Jet but also to all the companies and people who supported us, either by coming along or donating prizes at a time of financial uncertainty”.
With pre season now out of the way, all that is left is for the Stars to kick off their league campaign away to Crossley Swifts in early September.
